Ingredients:
- 1.5 lb flank steak
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tsp coarse black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions:
- Whisk the olive oil, soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, ginger, and pepper in a small bowl until the sugar dissolves. Pour this into a Ziploc bag.
- Slide the flank steak into the bag. Squeeze out all the air before sealing Note: this ensures the meat is fully submerged.
- Refrigerate for 2 hours. If you have the time, leave it overnight for a more tender result.
- Set your oven to 'Broil' and move the rack to the 4-6 inch position from the top.
- Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top.
- Place the marinated steak on the rack. Broil for 6-8 minutes on the first side until the edges are blackened and bubbling.
- Flip the meat. Broil for another 6-8 minutes until the internal temperature hits 130°F (54°C) for medium rare.
- Move the steak to a cutting board. Let it rest for 10 minutes Note: this keeps the juices from running out.
- Slice the Broiled Flank Steak thinly against the grain on a diagonal.
