Ingredients:

  • 1 lb fresh string beans, trimmed
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes

Instructions:

  1. Wash the beans thoroughly and pat them dry. Trim the stem ends, avoiding cutting too deep into the bean.
  2. Heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. Toss in the beans and sauté for 3-5 minutes until small, mahogany-colored blister marks develop.
  3. Pour in the water and immediately cover the skillet with a lid. Let the beans steam for 2-3 minutes until al dente.
  4. Remove the lid and let any remaining water evaporate. Lower the heat to medium and add the butter, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Stir constantly for 1-2 minutes until the butter is foamy and the garlic is fragrant.
  5. Remove from heat. Drizzle with fresh lemon juice and sprinkle with Parmesan and red pepper flakes. Toss to coat in the glaze.
